The aim of the mentorship programme - what it is all about 

Our mentorship programme is designed to support international students in Finland as they transition from their studies to professional life. 

We bridge the gap between education and employment by providing guidance, networking opportunities, and practical advice to soon-to-graduate and recent international graduates. 

Why become a mentee? 

As an international student, joining a mentor program can be a game-changer for your career in Finland. While being a mentee doesn't directly guarantee a job, it significantly enhances your chances of launching a successful career. With the support of a mentor, you’ll build valuable connections, gain insights into the local job market, and expand your professional network—key factors in starting a career abroad.

Mentors are there to guide you in setting clear goals, developing the right strategies to achieve them, and providing you with personalized advice on navigating your professional journey in Finland. This kind of guidance can be invaluable in helping you take the next steps toward a successful career.

Who can be a mentee? 
 
Eligibility: Members with an international background (parent/s from non-Finnish origin and non-Finnish or Swedish native speakers). We will prioritize soon-to-graduate students (graduate within 6 months) and recently graduated members (graduated within the 6 months prior registration). 

Language requirement: English is the official language of the program. However, mentees are encouraged to speak any other language they’d have in common with their mentor. 

Why focusing on international students? 

Finland's population and workforce are becoming increasingly international. In 2023, 11% of residents had an international background, a figure that has doubled since 2015. This trend is set to continue. 

Today's international students are tomorrow's workforce. Through mentorships, everyone gets a fantastic opportunity to learn about different cultures and backgrounds, strengthen communication skills across languages and cultures, and improve English and other languages in a practical setting. 

What to Expect from the Programme

• Flexibility: No strict schedule—each mentor-mentee pair decides how often and where they want to meet. We encourage the pairs to meet regularly, approximately every three weeks, totaling about 9 meetings from October 2024 to April 2025. 
• Community: Get together sessions at The Tower in Mall of Tripla where you will have the possibility to meet and share experiences with other mentors and mentees
  • Kick-Off: October 3, 2024, 17:30-18:30 (mandatory)
  • Additional sessions: December 5, 2024 and February 6, 2025
  • Closing Event: April 10, 2025, 17:30-18:30 (mandatory)  

Additional Benefits

• Mutual Learning: We encourage reverse and peer mentorship. Mentees will also be in the position to teach the mentor or learn something together with them.
• Resource Access: All of our self-guided development and job-searching materials are made available. Mentors and mentees can go over them together, if relevant.

Mentor registration deadline: End of August 
Mentee registration: Opens on 3rd of September, closes end of September. 
Pairing notification: By the end of September 
Onboarding session (online): September 26, 18:45-19:15 
Mandatory kick-off: October 3, 17:30 at the Tower, Mall of Tripla, Fredikanterassi 1, Helsinki
