The aim of the mentorship programme - what it is all about

Our mentorship programme is designed to support international students in Finland as they transition from their studies to professional life.

We bridge the gap between education and employment by providing guidance, networking opportunities, and practical advice to soon-to-graduate and recent international graduates.

Why become a mentor?

Everyone has something valuable to offer. By becoming a mentor you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the insights you gain from your own expertise. Mentoring broadens your thinking, offers new perspectives, and is incredibly rewarding. Many mentors find the experience so enriching that they return year after year.

Join our community of mentors and mentees and help shape the careers of international students, making a meaningful difference in their lives.

Who can be a mentor?

Eligibility: Any member -native Finnish or international- with a minimum of 2+ years of experience in a field or job, willing to share their experience.

Language requirement: Willingness to speak English is key. Keep in mind, English is not the native language of most mentees, your English is good enough for communication.

Why mentor international students?

Today's international students are tomorrow's colleagues. Mentoring them offers a fantastic opportunity to learn about different cultures and backgrounds, strengthen your communication skills across languages and cultures, and improve your English and other languages in a practical setting.

Finland's population and workforce are becoming increasingly international. In 2023, 11% of residents had an international background, a figure that has doubled since 2015. This trend is set to continue.

Why international mentees need you

Our programme aims to help soon-to-graduate and recent international graduates in Finland transition from studies to the professional world. The first year post-graduation is crucial, with many internationals facing high unemployment rates and often leaving Finland due to lack of career opportunities and networks. Your guidance can make a significant difference in their journey.

What to Expect from the Programme

  • Flexibility: No strict schedule—each mentor-mentee pair decides how often and where they want to meet. We encourage the pairs to meet regulary, approximately every three weeks, totaling about 10 meetings from October 2024 to April 2025.
  • Community: Get together sessions at The Tower in Mall of Tripla where you will have the possibility to meet and share experiences with other mentors and mentees
    Kick-Off: October 3, 2024, 17:30-18:30 (mandatory)
    Additional sessions: December 5, 2024 and February 6, 2025
    Closing Event: April 10, 2025, 17:30-18:30 (mandatory)

Additional Benefits

  • Mutual Learning: We encourage reverse and peer mentorship. You’ll also learn from your mentee.
  • Resource Access: All of our self-guided development and job-searching materials are made available. Mentors and mentees can go over them together, if relevant.

Process and important dates

Language: English will be the default communication language, but mentees might want to practice their Finnish/Swedish. Mentor and mentee might both speak another common language. Keep that in mind when registering.
