BIZ POTENTIAL 2023 RULES

These rules are not yet set in stone and may change. If so, all competitors will be informed by email prior to the qualifier or final. Especially the grading for the qualifier might see changes.

1 § Purpose of the competition

Biz Potential Finland 2023 is a competition organised by Suomen Ekonomit and Danske Bank Finland to find the most talented economics and business students in Finland. The competition is open to all student members of Suomen Ekonomit. The competition tests students' academic skills in theoretical and practical tasks. The main language of the competition is English.

2 § Teams

Participating in the competition is done in teams. A team must consist of 2-3 members, who all must be student members of Suomen Ekonomit. Each team must nominate a captain. Team members may be from different student associations. In this case, the association of the team captain determines which association's qualification the team will participate in.

The team with the best qualifying result from each of the competing subject associations will be selected for the finals. If no team from an association takes part in the competition, the next best team in the qualifying competition will be selected in place of the non-participating association. If no more than 15 teams register for the competition, there will be no qualifying competition and all registered teams will be eligible to take part in the final.

3 § Schedule

Registration for the competition opens on 1 March and closes on 26 March 2023.The registration link will be published in the Suomen Ekonomit newsletter and on the website of Suomen Ekonomit on 6 March 2023. A qualifying round will be held among the registered participants, which will be held online on 4-5 April 2023. The finalists will be notified by 12 April 2023. The final will be held in Jyväskylä from 12 to 13 May. Accommodations are provided until 14 May.

4 § Progression of the competition

Qualifiers: The qualifying competition will be conducted on the Howspace platform in the form of a multiple-choice test. A team can open the test once, at which point the time spent on the test starts to run. The maximum time allowed to complete the test is 90 minutes. In the event of a tie, the teams will be ranked according to the time taken to complete the test. The team that takes less time will be placed higher in the results.

Final: The final will take place as a two-day event in Jyväskylä on 12-13 May 2023.

The final will consist of three stages.

All finalist teams will participate in the theory part, after which the seven best teams will proceed to the case part. After combining the points from parts 1 and 2, the four best teams will compete in the”Super Final”.

The event will start on Friday 12 May in the afternoon with the theoretical part of the competition - the results of the theoretical part will be published during the same day.

The second final day on 13 May will start with the presentation of the case studies and the draw for the order of presentation. Teams will then have three and a half hours to solve the case studies and plan their presentation. The created presentations will be sent by the deadline to the person designated by the competition organiser.

The case studies are presented in a randomized order. All teams sit in the hall during the presentations. During the presentations note-taking or discussion is strictly forbidden. Any editing of the presentation after sending them to the organizer will result in direct disqualification of the team.

The last part of the final, the "Super Final", will take place at the beginning of the evening. In the Super Final, the top four scoring teams after the theory test and the case study will face each other in a fast-paced competition.

Finally, the top three teams of the evening will be rewarded, based on the combined scores of the theory test, the case study and the Super Final. In a tie, the final standings will be decided according to points gained:
